A bay you can actually swim in
Pasikuda's reputation rests on one physical fact: the bay is shallow and sheltered, so the water stays calm and you can wade a long way out. On an island where a great many beaches have strong currents and steep shelves, that makes it genuinely useful for families and weak swimmers. The bay is lined with resorts, so it is a beach-holiday destination rather than a village.
How long to give it
Two to four nights, depending on how much of the trip is meant to be beach. It pairs naturally with Batticaloa just to the south and with the drive to or from Trincomalee, and it is a reasonable end point for an itinerary that has come across from the hill country.
East coast season
Like the rest of the east, Pasikuda's season runs roughly from May to September, the opposite of the southwest. That is what makes it valuable in a mid-year itinerary, when Mirissa and Bentota are into the south-west monsoon. Nearby Kalkudah bay is longer and less developed if you want a walk away from the hotels.
