What "private" actually means here

One vehicle, one driver-guide, and nobody else on the trip. You are not joining a group, there is no fixed departure date, and the schedule is yours: if a site is busier than expected or a beach day is going well, the day changes. That flexibility is the whole point, and it is the main practical difference from a coach tour.

The vehicle

Vehicle size is matched to your group and luggage rather than sold as an upgrade. A car suits two or three travellers, an SUV gives more room on longer routes, and a minivan is the sensible choice from about five people or when everyone has a full-size case. Air conditioning is standard. The vehicle stays with you for the whole trip, so bags stay in it between hotels rather than being loaded and unloaded at every transfer.

The driver-guide

A driver-guide does more than drive. They handle the route and the timing, deal with ticketing and entry logistics at each site, and provide the context that makes a stop worth having made. They also know when to leave: the difference between climbing Sigiriya at 7am and at 11am is significant, and a guide who pushes for the early start is doing their job.

• If a guide is not working out, tell us during the trip. Changing one mid-route is possible and far better than enduring a week.

What can be changed

Essentially everything, and the earlier you ask the cheaper it is. Dates, route order, how many nights in each place, hotel tier, vehicle size, guide language, and which coast you finish on are all decided before you confirm. Adding a region, removing one, or combining two published routes into one trip is a normal request rather than a special case.

What moves the price

We do not publish a fixed private-tour rate because there is not one. The largest factor is hotel tier, which can change a week’s total more than anything else. Then group size, since a private vehicle costs roughly the same for two travellers as for four and the per-person figure falls as you add people. Then season, with the December-to-March peak on the southwest coast priced differently from October. Then trip length and whether a safari with park entry and a jeep is included.

Support during the trip

You keep a direct line to the planning team for the whole trip, not just to your driver, and it is the same WhatsApp thread you used to book. Road closures, a hotel that disappoints, a change of plan — most of it is fixable while you are still there and much harder afterwards.

How booking works

Send your dates, group size and rough preferences. A person reads it and replies with a proposed route and a price, usually within a day. You ask for changes and the quote changes. Nothing is charged until you have accepted a written quote — there is no checkout on this site, and we never ask for card details on these pages.
